I was moving quickly and ambitiously like everyone else incity. I had a purpose, a goal to reach for the day. Drivers were racing by, trying to break commuter time records for their trip to the office. The man perched on the sidewalk was simply a blurry vision, a brief obstacle in their path. If they had looked closely they’d see his deep penetrating eyes and modest request for help. I couldn’t help but slow my step and reach out to him, even just through eye contact. Although neither of us spoke a word, our mutual understanding and compassion dissipated any thoughts of judgment at that moment.
